Transcription of a newspaper article about Crawfordsville, Iowa / by Julie Jensen. [19--]

Transcription by Rachek Adel of an article which appeared in the Times Democrat (Davenport, Iowa) on Sunday, October 3, 1965 describing political activity in Crawfordsville, Iowa in 1854. The town was an abolitionist stronghold and is reputed to be the site of the first recorded meeting of the Republican Party, although documentation for this claim is lacking. The article also describes a connection between the town and the Bronte sisters. Sarah Crawford, daughter of the town's namesake, is connected to both of these accounts.
